Brian Moghadam is responsible for Business Development at Powerex. Brian is a frequent speaker at conferences across North America. His speaking engagements have been around green & renewable power development and markets; electricity supply and demand assessments and forecasts in the West; natural gas market drivers, including pricing, supply and demand assessments & liquefied natural gas (LNG) fundamentals and opportunities in North America. Brian has been a guest lecturer at the University of Calgary in the Energy & Environmental Systems department; at Simon Fraser University; at the University of British Columbia; at the US Industrial College of the Armed Forces, National Defense University; at the University of Victoria’s Integrated Energy Systems, School of Engineering; and at the Foster School of Business, University of Washington.
Powerex is the energy marketing arm of BC Hydro. In business since 1988, it buys and sells electricity, electricity products, natural gas and renewable energy products throughout Western North America. Powerex is also the largest physical marketer of electricity in Western North America.
Having been employed in the energy industry since 1981, Brian joined Powerex in 1996 after a long career in Calgary working for Gulf Canada in downstream petroleum marketing, Petro-Canada in natural gas marketing and regulatory affairs, and in the rates group for TransCanada PipeLines. Brian has testified or appeared before Canada’s National Energy Board, California Public Utilities Commission, Oregon Public Utilities Commission, Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission, BC Utilities Commission, Ontario Energy Board and the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. He was also a member of Business in Vancouver’s editorial advisory board for over a decade. Brian has been recently appointed to the Board of the Pacific Energy Innovation Association.
Brian graduated from the University of Calgary’s school of management with major in marketing & management. He is married to Gayle Hunter, a commercial real estate partner at the international law firm of Blake, Cassels and Graydon and they reside in North Vancouver. In his spare time, Brian enjoys long distance running, cycling, hiking, skiing, photography and piloting a light aircraft in the skies of Vancouver.
