Professor Frank has been conducting research in advanced transportation systems for much higher fuel efficiency since 1967. He is now designing for production hybrid electric powertrain systems for commercial use. He has been at UC Davis since 1985 and has continued research into super fuel efficiency. Professor Frank and his students have developed over 9 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles in the last 15 years. He holds over 40 patents, has published over 120 technical papers and given many talks on the advantages and the technology of Plug-In Hybrid and Battery Electric Vehicles. He is recognized as the “Father of the PHEV”.
Since Joining EDI, the company has constructed dozens of prototypes and pre-production vehicles using the Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid and pure Electric trucks and buses using new patents belonging to Professor Frank. He has constructed trucks of all classes from Class 2 to Class 8 or light duty to heavy duty trucks and buses with the Plug-In Hybrid Electric and pure electric vehicle concepts. The PHEVLERs are designed to use more than 90% electric energy and less than 10% liquid fuel annually. They suffer none of the EV downsides and do not require fast charging. In addition, recently he has been involved in the design of pure electric vehicles.
